Life Rocks

jiLife rocks! By Jill Fromelius

Life is so full and rich when you are in the present moment- smelling the fresh air and flowers, sick seeing the beauty all around me, smiling and looking into people’s eyes and paying attention to everything! Life is such a rush, who needs drugs?

I am so grateful for my life, exactly as it is. I am so blessed and so grateful for the opportunity to be on this gloriously beautiful planet. I have not always felt this way. I have struggled with painful emotional issues and serious physical illnesses. I have felt sorry for myself and I used to focus on all of the things that didn’t work in my life and why I was unhappy and how my life wasn’t what I wanted.

I found that joy and happiness came with accepting what I did have and being truly grateful for it. There is a spiritual teaching that says you can’t have more if your hand is full. It took me a long time to see that my hand was full of “not having” and disappointment or unhappiness.

At first it was hard for me to find things to be grateful for. Keeping a gratitude journal is so powerful and it brings more good into your life. Our gratitude is recognition to the universe that says, “I like this, I’ll take more, thank you.” So even though I didn’t have the life I wanted, I started being grateful for what I did have. And when my health was not great in my eyes, I acknowledged that it was so much better than what some others were living with. I found that I could also use gratitude to distract myself from what was painful or hard. If I was not well, I could be grateful for the beautiful clouds or flowers and enjoy them and I instantly felt better. Not only did I feel better, I felt fuller and happier.

I still have challenges, but I am a lot happier. Sometimes I forget to be grateful, but then I remember again. It doesn’t take much to help me remember; feeling the sun on my skin, playing with my dog or doing something kind and nice for someone else.

Part of my journey has been finding an amazing spiritual group that feels like “home” to me, Phoenix Institute Pittsburgh, Inc. It encompasses all paths, beliefs etc. with a much bigger picture of “more” that I had been looking for. We talk about practical ways to be a better more loving person. There are some of the most amazing loving people I have ever met in my life and I am so grateful to call my friends.

I have also been vegan for 20 plus years and that supports me in a positive way on my path.

So go out there and live a life filled with gratitude, a love filled life. Live in the moment, because NOW, is all that is.

What is a gratitude journal?
